In this tutorial we will be showing you how to add a “post” or blog to your WordPress website / blog. The tools we will be using will be WordPress version 4.6 and the default Twenty Sixteen theme. This tutorial assume that you have already signed into your WordPress backend.
Navigate to the post menu item on the left as per the figure below.
As you hover over “Posts” select the “Add New” item. This will bring you to the “Add New Post” screen. The screen has 3 main sections; the Title section Content section and the Publish section. Other sections includes custom fields (which is a topic for another day), Format, Tags, Categories and Featured Image.
Now complete the Title with the name of your blog e.g. “My first blog”. Write your desired content. Before you publish to make the blog live you have the option of saving it to finish or review later, this is a great option if you have limited time to write so you can do it in stages.
I recommend that you create a category for your blog as you may want to write on a similar topic in the future, it is also one of great organisation tools in WordPress as it will allow your visitors to search for content based on a category. If you do not create a category everything will be in the category called “Uncategorized”. The same thing applies to tags another great search tools for visitors if they are looking for topics containing your specified tags.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, which is so true, in your blog insert one or two pictures and further to this add a “Featured Image” which is located at the bottom right of the screen, simply click “Set Featured Image” select a great picture from you computer and insert it. Featured images are the image visitors will see before they open your blog, so make is enticing.
Once you are satisfied with the end product, simply “Publish” and there you are a fresh new piece of content for your website. The process is really simple and you should be able to master it quite quickly. If you do not have the time do not hesitate contact us if you need assistance as we do offer a great maintenance package.
